Job Title:       Legal Assistant
Employer: Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA)
Location: Uganda

Duties: 
·         The incumbent will work closely with the Legal protection to ensure the protection of populations of concern is met through the application of the relevant UN/UNHCR protection standards and IASC principles
·         Ensure that protection incidents are immediately identified and addressed.
·         Ensure the people of concern have access to legal and fair hearing in court through court follow ups, prison monitoring etc.
·         Sensitize the Community and Local authorities on Refugee law and Human Rights relating to refugees and others persons of concern to UNHCR, in order to ensure that national legislation is in compliance with International Legal Standards.
·         Analytical reports of Legal protection related trends and issues are produced on a monthly and ad hoc basis
·         Keep abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on Legal protection related issues
·         Actively promote International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct
·         Assists in dealing with police concerning asylum-seekers and refugees to provide them protection to remain safely in country of asylum.
·         Provide follow up to court cases involving asylum seekers/refugees, visits judges, public prosecutors, and explains IC's refugee status. If necessary arranges for a lawyer.
·         Guides on domestic legal issues including immigration and alien laws regarding asylum seekers/refugees.
·         Provide counseling to asylum seekers/refugees on their legal problems. Explain legislation and their status in order to act accordingly.
·         Advocate for legal aid services from the different legal aid service providers and Pro bono services from legal practitioners for the purpose of disposing of refugee cases at court
·         Assists in assessing welfare and providing assistance to the refugee caseload in prisons.
·         Compiles monthly statistics of refugees in various prisons in the region.
·         Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of legal related activities within the newly established protection response framework
·         Providing capacity building to RWCs and community members.
·         Carry out any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

Education:
·         The ideal candidate for the HIJRA Legal Assistant job placement must hold a degree in Law (with specialization in criminal or human rights or any other related comparable line of specialization in law)

Experience
·         A minimum of two years’ experience in the same field of development and humanitarian work and NGOs’.
·         Ability to produce high-quality legal documentation.
·         Excellent presentation and communication skills and the ability to interact with a number of different partners and contacts, including governmental authorities, UNHCR, victims and their families etc.
·         Excellent communication and mediation skills

Job Title:          Legal, Compliance and Risk Officer (LCR Officer)

Duties:  
Supports the Management Team in handling complex transactional matters and ongoing commercial contracts.
Supports the Management Team in maintaining corporate records and minute books, coordinating matters relating to board and shareholders meetings, preparing materials for such meetings, and preparing related minutes, written consents, etc.
Supports the management team with respect to periodic Govt. Of Uganda regulatory reporting.

Job Title:         Legal Assistant
Employer: UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI)
Location: Kampala, Uganda

Duties:  
Conduct legal due diligence and verifying the authenticity of the client’s securities.
Properly manage the custody of securities and any other relevant documents thereto by closely monitoring the movement of securities and accurately updating the security Register accordingly.
The jobholder will also process the charges and payment for the perfection and registration of securities both at head office and at the branches
Secure the interests of the Company by filing, perfecting and registering the securities and supporting documents in a timely manner ensuring no loss or misplacement of the same.
Keenly follow up the retrieval of all securities and supporting documents with the relevant offices and stakeholders such as external lawyers, Registrars, clerks, among others.
Provide support in the preparation, monitoring, and filing, following up and updating the Institution of the cases.
Assist in the preparation of case summaries, pleadings, mediation conferences, hearings, witness, and evidence among others.
Perform any other duties assigned from time to time

Education:
The ideal candidate for the UGAFODE Legal Assistant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice.

Experience
A minimum of two years’ experience in the legal field preferably in a financial institution.

Job Title: Legal Officer - Board Administrator
Employer: Housing Finance Bank

Duties
Prepare and maintain a schedule of Board, Committee meetings and maintain a diary of meetings in line with the annual board work plan.
Prepare and submit all communications (correspondence, agenda, notices, schedules of information) for Board. Committee meetings in line with agreed timelines.
Assemble information from a variety of sources to facilitate the preparation of Board memoranda.
Keep custody of all Board papers, documents and minutes.
Implement mechanisms for preparation, maintenance of attendance registers and prepare allowances for the Board in line with the Banks policies and procedures.
Arrange for Board Appraisals/Evaluations, induction, training and development of Directors on the Business of the Bank.
